There are many butane soldering iron discounts and reviews. You just have to know where to look and find them. One good place to look for a Weller soldering iron is at pawn shops as they sometimes have them at a very low price.

The most common form of cold heat soldering is used to connect connectors or circuits to an electronic circuit board. A cold heat soldering iron is used to melt soldering metal to glue two items together. Cold heat soldering irons are different than your usual heat soldering gun. There are also different ways to use them in order to get the type of work you desire.

JOINT

The connection between your work piece and the application where you will be soldering to is called your joint area. You need to heat up the joint with your soldering iron, this will then melt the solder in order to make the proper connection. If the joint you are working with is very small then you will only need to hold the soldering iron on it for a few seconds. This is enough time to melt the solder. Once the joint and solder are connected your soldering iron will show a red LED. This is an indication that the joint is now connected. Sometimes it is hard to make a connection when you have a very small joint area to work with, but this is usually taken care of by tilting your soldering iron as much as possible.

TIPS

Tips on a cold heat soldering iron are much different than your average heat gun. With a cold heat soldering gun you want to press very lightly on your joints. Pressing excessively will actually hurt the electrodes and this could cause your soldering to be jeopardized. Only press enough to where you soldering gun will show you the red light which is an indicator of a successful connection. If you are still having problems seeing the light then try a little bit of pressure but at a different angle.

WARNINGS

Cold heat soldering irons are meant for large items such as jewelry, wiring, and circuit boards. Cold heat soldering guns use electrical discharge to build up heat. If used incorrectly this heat can usually fry small circuit boards by overloading them with electrical discharge. To avoid such risk, do not leave your soldering gun on the area you are working on for a long period of time. Apply gently a couple of seconds at a time. If you see a lot of smoke coming out of your soldering tip then you will have to let the soldering iron cool down before you can use it again.
